Our Students’ Choice Award program welcomes students from any of our programs to nominate a teacher who exemplifies the following characteristics of an impactful and caring educator, by using our nomination form below to affirm the following statement:
“I, (you the student), truly believe that Mr./Mrs./Ms. (your nominated teacher) deserves this semester’s Students’ Choice Award because he/she a) gives me sufficient time (in class or after class) to ask questions in order for me to fully understand the subject that he/she teaches b) acknowledges my presence by using eye contact and calling me by my correct name c) keeps full control of the class in order to create a positive learning environment d) shows appreciation for my culture as a Pacific Islander (or any other culture you are) and e) teaches me how to prepare for life after elementary/middle/high school.”
Students’ Choice Award Nomination Form
Once a semester, our selection committee chooses one deserving teacher based on a) the number of votes a specific teacher receives and b) the number of criteria that each student is able to express in his/her nomination form about the teacher. Then, we reach out to each teacher in order to prepare themselves and their classroom for a visit from us. In true Pacific Islander fashion, we bring gifts of gratitude, honor and respect.
Our goal through this program is to support the teachers that our Pacific Islander students (by ethnicity or in heart) recognize as positive role models and advocates for their education. It truly does take a village!
